Not your little sister's jellies

You may remember last week we mentioned some of our favorite pieces from Magnet were the adorable flats from Melissa. In honor of Earth Day we decided these recycled beauties deserved a second look.

Made from reused PVC pipe, Melissa shoes are completely recyclable and produced by employees who are paid above average wages with benefits. The company also makes sure to recycle almost all of the factory water and waste used  and even reuses overstock shoes in the production of the next season's line. These are shoes you can truly feel good about wearing.

But don't think you have to wear something bland to be kind to the environment. Melissa teams up with celebrated designers each season (like The Campana brothers, Judy Blame, and Karidm Rashid) to create unique and high fashion designs that defy the limits of the medium. Who knew plastic could look this good? From edgy kitten heels to classic ballet flats, there's a Melissa shoe to suit every style. And did we mention they smell like bubble gum?

Stay tuned for the 2008 collection when Melissa will pair up with Vivienne Westwood. We can't wait!
