Okay, okay, so we already brought you a vintage Myspace pick, but really, who can resist a shop with such a wonderful name? Also run by an Oakland gal, this lovely Myspace page serves as a shopfront for a great Ebay boutique.
And how can you resist this sailor flapper outfit? As the description in the shop suggests, it'd turn one lanky brunette into a great Olive Oil.
Herringbone Apothecary, our favorite makeup boutique and spa, has a new masseuse and a new shipment of Kevyn Aucoin makeup to help you feel refreshed and funky for fall. Get a relaxing massage and find a new look before heading over to Cesar for a sangria and snacks.
We just recently discovered this adorable Myspace vintage shop and are in love. Also a duo based in Oakland (yeah for Oakland duos!) these two East Bay gals sell funky finds that aren't your run of the mill vintage.
They also just have fantastic pics of all of their merchandise and a snazzy myspace.
If you haven't already discovered the awesomeness that is the Rock Paper Scissors Collective in Oakland, go to one of their fun classes going on in the next few weeks:
Wednesday Sep 24: Make a totebag from a t-shirt Thursday Sep 25: Craft night Thursday Oct 4: Beginning knitting class and knitting circle
Check out their site for a greater list of all the goings-ons and to learn more about this great collective. Or add them as a friend on their Myspace page to get weekly updates on what they have to offer.
Since FF doesn't have a camera this week, we're going to take the opportunity to share some of our favorite Myspace boutiques. If you're feeling a little lazy and don't feel like hitting the stores, check out these online (but still local!) shops that we love.
To go with our theme of fall skirt styles, our fashion find of the week is this pretty black pencil skirt we recently found at Pretty Penny. Vintage is a great resource when looking for this retro style.
Although it's basic black, the ribbing detail in the satin fabric keeps this skirt far from blah. Perfect to go with the red lips and dewey skin that is popping up everywhere this season (stay tuned next week for more on this emerging beauty trend). I promise you, my horrible photography skills don't do this lovely skirt justice.
We want to know what the East Bay is really wearing. Are you sporting 90's grunge? Are you still loving leggings? Send us a pic of you wearing your favorite outfit for us to post on the site. What is your East Bay style?
Email us your pic with a description of what you're wearing. And if you bought it in the East Bay, let us know where you found it!
This week we're going to bring you a fashion trend that we're a little apprehensive about: Plaid.
Yes, the 90's are back with a vengeance, and stars that can barely remember melancholy days listening to Nirvana and Pearl Jam are sporting the grunge.
Fashion Forward is having a little trouble seeing how this sloppy style is going to fit in with fall and spring's tailored looks. We'll have to wait and see if this look is here to stay, or will disappear like pogs.
We're so happy this super sexy trend has stuck around from last season. From sleek looks in classic black to romantic retro, the pencil skirt can be surprisingly versatile. Pair it with a pair of spiked heels and a pretty belt for a sopisticated look for day or night. Check out the look below from Ralph Lauren's fall runway show.
But don't get stuck always wearing basic black. Keep your eye out for brighter colors and different fabrics this season. Our pick for our favorite pencil skirt is this beautiful wool number from Koi Suwannagate we found recently at August on College Ave.
In beautiful teal wool with lovely details, this variation on the pencil skirt looks straight out of the 40's. And did we mention it has a lovely pleat in the back? Pair it with ankle-strap heels and a pretty cardigan for a look that will carry you through the winter chill. Check out how it looked on the runway.
We're back in action here at Fashion Forward and are ready to show you the best places to pick up key pieces for your fall wardrobe. The leaves are already starting to drop, so if you haven't picked up this season's hottest skirt picks - the pencil and the short, full skirt - stay tuned to find out where to find the best selection before spring hits and you're already out of date.
The Fall season brings great fashion, and of course a season of new tv shows and new episodes of old favorites. This season promises to be a good one, even for those of us without cable. With shows like Gossip Girl, 90210, and Stylista, be prepared for an onslaught of style.
Since its on air debut Gossip Girl has been a show to watch for fashion inspiration and this season promises to bring more fabulous looks to the small screen. The prep school look is big this season and easy to emulate, who doesn't like to layer sweater vests and blazers when the weather turns colder?
And, while this blogger may be more of a fan of the original 90210 90's fashions of ditsy floral print dresses and cropped jean jackets, the new 90210 offers up a view into what is hot in the L.A. fashion scene.
Also, check out this month's issue of Nylon for a dose of nostalgia with at fashion inspiration from our favorite television shows. Remember this ?
Fashion Forward is taking a little break from reporting on the East Bay fashion scene and will only be bringing you limited content for a few weeks. You can expect trend spotting and updates on local events and sales, but our shopping trips will be temporarily postponed.
But don't despair East Bayers! We'll back soon! Check back for new content in the next few weeks.
